Fort Myers vet Denny Black traded rifle for instrument during Vietnam era
- Fort Myers veteran Denny Black was drafted during the Vietnam War and expected to be sent into the infantry, but a drill sergeant's question about musical instruments changed his path.
- Black, who held bachelor's and master's degrees in music, was instead placed in a band in El Paso and later joined the Fifth Army Band in Seoul, South Korea.
- He still performs across Southwest Florida and this Saturday will take part in Honor Flight Mission 30.
