NCH emergency rooms use retinal scanners to diagnose eye strokes
- NCH has become the first health system in the U.S. to install digital retinal scanners in all of its emergency departments, aiming to diagnose eye strokes and other vision emergencies faster.
- The scanners capture high-definition images of the eye in seconds without dilation and can send them directly to an eye specialist.
- Emergency physician Dr. Christopher Kumetz said the technology lets doctors be quicker, faster and more precise in diagnosing sudden vision loss.
