Phoenix fire department uses e-bikes to cut mountain rescue times
- The Phoenix Fire Department is using e-bikes at north and south Phoenix fire stations to reach stranded hikers faster on South Mountain and other trails.
- Capt. DJ Lee said the department hopes to cut mountain rescue response times by at least 50%, which could save lives.
- The department has already handled over 100 mountain rescues this year, and the bikes also save crews energy on long hikes with heavy gear.
