A rare Arizona meadow protects the Valley's water supply
- A $1.2 million restoration project in the Tonto National Forest is repairing the Little Green Valley Fen, one of only two known wet meadows of its kind in Arizona.
- Past road construction and peat extraction carved a 20-foot head cut that drained the meadow and its groundwater.
- The work, completed in April 2026, is meant to slow water in the upper watershed that feeds Tonto Creek, Roosevelt Lake and the Salt River system supplying metro Phoenix.
