Sunshine Acres: A Mesa children’s home where kids find family, stability and hope
- Sunshine Acres, a privately funded Christian children's home in northeast Mesa, has cared for more than 3,000 children since opening in 1954.
- The 100-acre campus houses children in seven residential homes, each with full-time house parents, and does not accept government funds.
- Its 91-year-old president and CEO, Carol Whitworth, whose parents founded the home, says the focus remains on giving children stability, faith and opportunities.
- The organization also says it has been mistakenly linked to a similarly named company tied to an influence-buying case involving Gov. Katie Hobbs.
