Highline Lake State Park planning new observatory for viewing western Colorado's night skies
- Highline Lake State Park will get a new observatory and amphitheater for night sky educational programming starting next year.
- Colorado Parks and Wildlife is partnering with the Western Colorado Astronomy Club to build the DownUnder Observatory on the park's western side, with construction expected to begin this winter and last until early spring 2027.
- The project supports the park's effort toward an International Dark Sky Park designation and would give area stargazers a viewing site close to Grand Junction.
