Birch Aquarium welcomes guests to explore the axolotl's garden in new exhibit
- Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has opened a new exhibit, 'The Axolotl's Garden/El Jardín del Ajolote,' featuring the endangered Mexican salamander.
- The exhibit uses animal encounters, contemporary art and conservation science to tell the story of the axolotl, which survives in the wild only in Mexico City's Lake Xochimilco.
- It launches six months of programming, including Day of the Dead altars on Oct. 27 and a bilingual play by UC San Diego students next spring.
- Access is included with aquarium admission.
