Local artist’s coin he designed for U.S. Mint wins top honors internationally
- San Marcos artist and teacher Chris Polentz was named a Coin of the Year champion at the American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money for his American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin.
- The coin, which depicts a sunflower on the front and a swirling eagle on the back, was chosen from 600 submissions from mints, banks and collectors worldwide and won the gold coin category.
- It is the latest recognition for Polentz, who has worked on 20 coin design projects with the U.S. Mint in two and a half years.
