'A really special region for birds': The Nat’s new curator on birding, collections and climate
- Ryan Terrill has taken over as the San Diego Natural History Museum's curator of ornithology, overseeing a collection of nearly 53,000 bird specimens.
- He replaces longtime curator Philip Unitt, who retired in February, and ornithology is now its own department at the museum.
- Terrill, a lifelong bird-watcher who has already seen almost 75 species in Balboa Park, plans to expand the collection, build a feather lab and study how climate change affects birds in Southern California and Baja California.
